Nea Makri is a city north - eastern Attica. The population according to the inventory 2001 is 13.986 residents.
Geographic situation
Nea Makri neighbours with Marathon from the north, with Rafina from the south, with the mount of Penteliko from the west, while its coasts are on the golf of Evia. It is 32 km away from Athens, (via the Avenues Messogias and Marathonos). It is 12 km away from Athens Airport (via the Marathonos Avenue and Attica high way). Is can also be reached through Pendeli mountain (via Dionyssos Avenue).
History
Nea Makri was founded in 1924, by Antonios Tzizi, and was first inhabited by refugees from Asia Minor.
Nea Makri grew up rapidly, especially in past years and it is extended in 36.662 acres and her permanent population it about 13.986 residents. In the summertime population exceeds 55.000 - 60.000 residents.
Neighbouring cities are Marathon, Mati, Anatoli, Agios Andreas, Zoymperi, Xylokeriza and Valtos.

In the camping area 6 huge camp sites are settled and are given the names of the winds.
